Do you know what’s one of the main things that sets the best apart from the crowd? Mindset training.
As humans we focus a lot on training our bodies to reach their peak physical levels and maintain a healthy lifestyle. What about training your mind too?
Mindset refers to the way you experience and shape the world according to your views. This is what dictates your behaviours. Which is why mindset training and transformation are so in demand in today’s time. An article reported that in a recent study conducted, the “growth mindset” skill was the top soft skill that companies have been looking for. This shows that there is a huge scope for career growth with mindset training along with personal development.
There must have been times you’ve felt like you’re just going through the motions and felt like you’re operating on autopilot. All of a sudden there are limiting beliefs and patterns that start to hold you back. How do you change this? The answer is once again in mindset training.
Mindset transformation is about adopting a growth mindset and a shift in the way you experience life. Mindset training benefits you in multiple different ways and aspects of life like relationships, self-discovery, responding to challenges, communication and so on.
One of the most powerful methods of mindset transformation is Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP). If you’re looking for a definition then NLP is the study of the structure of human subjective experiences. To make this simpler for you, it is how we do and think what we do and think. For example, have you noticed how some people are so good at achieving their goals? With NLP, you will be able to tap into their mindset and patterns which allow them to excel and in return you will be able to model these patterns for yourself to be put in use. You will be able to unpack the structure of their mindset transformation and find the difference that makes the difference. Soon, you too will be able to achieve your goals!
Creating change at a deeper level
One of the main reasons people are experiencing career growth and personal development through mindset training is because it allows you to create sustainable change over residual change.
You know when you set New Year resolutions or goals such as eating healthy, exercising and more? Notice how more often than not you start with so much enthusiasm and continue on your journey for a few weeks but then it fizzles out. Why does this happen?
Robert Dilts, NLP pioneer and developer, discovered that as humans we create changes at different levels in the brain and this is known as the Neurological Levels Of Change.
We create changes at these levels mentioned in the image above.
Let’s take an example of eating healthy. The changes at different levels are like this:
Environment – “The other people in the house should start eating healthy with me.”
This is when we create change in our surroundings and external environment or outside of us. Question – “Where/When am I eating healthy?”
Behaviour – Cooking at home more often
This is an action that you might take to eat healthy. Creating change at this level involves the question – “What am I doing to eat healthy?”
Skills – Learning about nutrition in detail and understanding it.
At this level you pick up skills, strategies and abilities to help create change. It could also be a skill of time management with meal preps. Question – “How am I eating healthy?”
Beliefs & Values – The belief that eating healthy is important for overall well-being which will impact everything positively. Prioritising the value of health over short-term satisfaction.
Beliefs and values are one of the levels where you will create a deeper level of change. Our beliefs act like our guiding principles and when there is a shift at this level then the change is more sustainable. Question – “What’s important to me about eating healthy?”
Identity – I am a healthy or health conscious person
How often have you noticed that when someone becomes a parent they make a lot of changes in their life for the better? This is because of the shift in identity which results in changes at the other levels such as beliefs, skills, behaviour and environment. When you shift your identity it has a trickle effect on everything else and the change is sustainable and deeper. Question – “Who are you when you eat healthy?”
Purpose – To live a long life for me and my family
This is the highest level at which you can make a change. It relates to purpose, mission, spirituality or faith and whatever term works for you. The question here is – “For who? For What?”
By working on changes at different levels you will be able to experience career growth with mindset transformation. You can create lasting and sustainable changes even when it comes to personal development. This model is a great example of using NLP and mindset training to transform your life and career. It’s one of the many ways you can tap into the potential of mindset training to boost your career and life in different ways.
Here’s how it can transform you career:
- Improve your communication with colleagues and teams to be able to precisely understand their needs as well be able to ethically influence them towards the desired goals.
