NLP Trainer & Coach
I am Karin Rohner, NLP Trainer and Coach from Switzerland and part of the Thought Labs team.
My own life experiences have deeply shaped the way I see and experience being alive. There have been moments of feeling disconnected — from others, from myself, and from life itself. Over time, I’ve discovered that reconnecting doesn’t necessarily mean changing who we are or how we feel, but becoming more deeply aware of what is already here – reconnecting with our essential self.
This awareness has become an important part of my journey and my work as an NLP Trainer and Coach. I am fascinated by the space behind our thoughts, emotions and experiences — the part of us that is aware of all of it. It has taught me that being fully alive is not dependent on the quality of our experience, but on our capacity to be present to it.
Almost seven years ago, I joined my first Thought Labs program at the NLP Retreat in Goa — an experience that became a profound turning point for me. Since then, Thought Labs has been an important part of my journey of exploration, connection and embodied learning.
Today, I invite others into that exploration with me: What if we don’t need to become more, change more or feel differently to be fully alive? What happens when we simply become aware of the awareness that is already here and connect with a deeper sense of being alive?

What does it really mean to be alive?
We often associate feeling alive with having energy, excitement, passion, achievement or a powerful vision for the future. But having energy is not the same as being alive — and being exhausted does not mean we are less alive.
What if being fully alive didn’t necessarily require you to do anything?
No extraordinary goal. No new habits. No self-improvement project. No becoming a better version of yourself. Of course, these are all very powerful things you can do that support you in feeling more alive, but on the most fundamental level, what if there is something much simpler, yet profound?
What if being alive is already happening — and the shift is simply becoming aware of it?
I experienced this question in a very direct and unexpected way after being admitted to the hospital earlier this year with a suspected serious diagnosis. In this moment, lying in the emergency room in the hospital together with other patients who were fighting for their life, I was scared about what’s happening with me. Luckily, after some tests, the diagnosis was not confirmed and I was able to go home healthy. But this was a wake-up call for me. In that moment, something became incredibly simple and profound for me: I realized that I was alive.
My heart was still beating.
I was still breathing.
I could still think.
I could still feel.
And somehow, simply knowing that I did not die, made me feel more alive than I had felt many times before.
There was nothing to accomplish. Nothing to improve. No extraordinary outcome to achieve.
Life was simply flowing in and through me.
This experience opened up a deeper question: How do we actually know that we are alive?
On the most fundamental level, we know it through our direct experience. We breathe. Our heart beats. We see, hear, feel and think. We are experiencing something, right now.
This session explores awareness as the foundation of being fully alive. Through our senses, we discover that the only place where life can actually be experienced is here and now. The past exists as memory; the future as projection. But seeing, hearing and feeling are only real in this present moment.
And yet, there are moments when we don’t feel alive. We can become disconnected from our experience, caught up in our thoughts, memories, plans or emotions. The invitation is not necessarily to change the experience, but to become aware of the awareness itself.
We will explore a deeper question:
Who is experiencing all of this?
You can notice your thoughts. You can feel your emotions. You can observe sensations in your body. But if you can observe them, that actually means you are not the thoughts or emotions themselves — you are the awareness that is experiencing and witnessing them.
Some traditions call this consciousness. Others simply call it presence or awareness.
This awareness is always there, regardless of the quality of your experience. You can be energetic or exhausted, joyful or sad, excited or uncertain — and still be fully alive.
“Awareness is like the sky. Your experience is like the weather.”
Thoughts, emotions, sensations, energy and exhaustion are constantly changing, just like clouds, rain, sunshine and storms. Some experiences feel bright and expansive; others feel heavy or dark. Yet the sky remains the space in which all of them arise and pass.
We often believe that we need to change our inner “weather” in order to feel fully alive — to become more energetic, happier, more successful or more inspired. But the sky doesn’t need the weather to be different in order to be the sky.
In the same way, you don’t necessarily need your experience to be different in order to be fully alive.
You can be exhausted and alive.
You can be sad and alive.
You can be uncertain and alive.
You can be joyful and alive.
The invitation is to shift the question from:
“How do I need to feel to be fully alive?”
to:
“How can I become aware of being alive is already happening, right now?”
Because when you stop changing the weather and simply become aware of it, you may discover something profound:
You are not the weather passing through. You are the space in which life is being experienced.
This session is not about creating a more extraordinary life.
It is about becoming aware of the life that is already flowing in you and trough you.
My session is an invitation to pause, turn our attention inward and reconnect with a deeper sense of being alive — exactly as we are, in this moment.
